Retora Games

December 2020-Present

My time at Retora was spent working on Merchant Guilds. Merchant Guilds is a mobile, GaaS, idle, multiplayer, rpg. Worked on all aspects of the game design and development. It is currently in open beta with over 15k downloads. Developed almost all of the client-side logic. Assisted in player relations.

  • Created and maintained client-side code architecture. Also implemented client-server communications.
  • Designed a new crafting system based off of the original “Merchant” design.
  • Designed all items, enemies, and heroes and tested them thoroughly to ensure the desired balance.
  • Designed daily and weekly quests for players including the rewards for the quests.
  • Built spreadsheet calculators with formulas and tools for designers to input numbers assigned to game elements that output condition based numbers to optimize game balancing.
  • Engaged with the early-access players to get their feedback on different game systems, balance, and make adjustments when appropriate.
  • Created playtest surveys and discussed with the team actions that needed to be taken based on the results.
  • Designed UX and UI mockups for our artist to refine, and then I implemented them into Unity.
  • Created, organized, and updated detailed design documentation to use for dev team reference and use.

  • Designed with the team the different puzzles for the game while maintaining design documents so that the level design stayed consistent and could be used by future designers.

Solo Project

January-March 2020

This project was a small PC prototype game. Player's goal was to avoid roaming enemies, collect items, and escape.

  • Maintained a blog describing the game development process and how it evolved over time.
